Youth football and semi-pro football teams will be allowed to play numerous games at the Butler High School football field, but they must pay.

This is a change in policy by the Butler School Board, which had allowed such teams to play only one game at the field.

The Butler School Board Monday night approved public use of Art Bernardi Stadium for the Butler Lil’ Tornados and Butler County Bears for a price.

“Policy 707 is a work in progress,” Linda Patten, president of the school board, said, referring to the school’s policy on use of all its facilities.

The board has divided requests for these facilities into three groups. One will have fees waived and includes school sponsored, charitable and governmental organizations.

The second group is nonprofit student or youth related organizations, including the Lil’ Tornados, which will receive 50 percent off the price of rentals.

The third group is for-profit organizations, such as the Bears minor league football team, which will pay the full rate.

The Lil’ Tornados will be charged $875 per day to use the school’s facilities for four days, playing three games each day. The fee will be capped at $3,500.

As a for-profit team, the Bears will be charged $1,400 to $1,500 to use the stadium.

The board waived fees for these organizations, which made requests to use different school facilities: Cub Scout Pack 482, the U.S. Army, the Butler Baseball Boosters, the Butler Boys Lacrosse Team, the Butler Boys Scholastic Lacrosse Association, the Special Olympics and the Family Resource Center, which will pay custodial fees.
