Fire official: Up to 9 believed killed in Kentucky blaze
GREENVILLE, Ky. — A fire official says authorities believe as many as nine people have been killed in a house fire in western Kentucky.
Greenville Assistant Fire Chief Roger Chandler says 11 people lived at the home in Muhlenberg County, and two were flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., for treatment.
Chandler said the blaze was reported at 3 a.m. today, and crews were still at the scene four hours later.
Greenville is in a rural area of the state, about 130 miles southwest of Louisville. Census figures show Greenville had a population of just more than 4,000 people in 2010.
