Rendell says Marcellus Shale tax 'clearly is dead'
HARRISBURG — Gov. Ed Rendell says an effort to negotiate a tax on natural gas extraction in Pennsylvania "clearly is dead" for the year.
The governor made the announcement in a news release issued today, one day after his efforts to jump-start talks with senior lawmakers yielded little progress.
Rendell is blaming the collapse of talks on what he calls a refusal by legislative Republicans to negotiate in good faith.
