Volunteers plant tulips in SR
SLIPPERY ROCK — More than 100 volunteers, most Slippery Rock University students, went to work on several gardens in the borough Saturday.
As is done every fall, the volunteers planted about 10,000 tulip bulbs at Roxy Park, Gateway Park, Memorial Park and in front of Slippery Rock Elementary School.
The volunteer effort is organized by Slippery Rock In Bloom and coincided with national Make a Difference Day, said organizer Regina Greenwald.
The flowers will bloom some time in late April or early May. The volunteers also pulled up weeds and dead flowers from previous years.
Because of scheduling conflicts, the America In Bloom judges did not visit the borough this summer. The group will hold a meeting in November at which it will discuss whether or not it should plan to have the judged come in 2016, Greenwald said.
