Voters stayed with tradition in Tuesday’s election, keeping a Republican majority on the Butler County board of commissioners.

According to unofficial results from the county elections bureau, incumbent Commissioner Dale Pinkerton and former Commissioner Bill McCarrier, who ran as a team, won the top two spots by a large margin.

McCarrier, 71, of Butler Township received the most votes with 15,182, or more than 29 percent.

Pinkerton, 71, of Butler clinched second with 14,719 votes, or more than 28 percent.

Not counting the more than 900 absentee ballots, which will be logged in sometime today, Democrat Jim Eckstein won the minority seat on the board with 11,168 votes, or more than 21 percent.

Eckstein, 54, of Butler Township was ecstatic about the results.

Democrat Jerry Johnston, 62, of Butler Township, came in fourth with 10,727 votes, or more than 20 percent.
