Turnpike will close for while early Sunday

The Pennsylvania Turnpike will closed in both directions between the Butler Valley Interchange and the Allegheny Valley Interchange from midnight until 5 a.m. Sunday.

Detours between the two exits, which are numbers 39 and 48, will primarily use Route 8 South and Route 28 North.

Alternate-route cards will be available to travelers at the Butler Valley and Allegheny Valley interchanges during the closure.

The closure is needed to add new steel beams to the overhead bridge at milepost 44 where Route 910 crosses over the turnpike. The bridge was closed to traffic in February with a replacement bridge scheduled for completion late this fall.

In addition to the closure, eastbound traffic on the turnpike will have some delays from 10 p.m. Monday night until 5 a.m. Tuesday morning for continued work on the bridge.
