Hines Ward retires from pro football
PITTSBURGH — Superbowl MVP wide receiver Hines Ward announced his retirement from pro football at a noon news conference.
He leaves the game after 13 seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers that was highlighted by two Superbowl victories, a Superbowl MVP award and trips to the Pro Bowl.
During his statement expressing thanks to the Steeler owners, coaches, players and fans, Ward was unable to fight back tears.
He said he was satisfied with his decision and looked forward to future challenges.
