CLAY TWP — A house on Webb Road burned down Sunday morning as high winds and an initial lack of water pressure hampered efforts to contain the fire.

Within minutes flames overtook the ranch-style house about one-half mile north of Route 138, forcing firefighters inside to retreat and leaving a family homeless.

No one was injured in the fire about 11 a.m. at the home of Richie and Tracey Rankin, who have an 11-year-old son.

Fire officials do not know what sparked the blaze, and the state police fire marshal is being called in to investigate.

Chief Reid Campbell of the West Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department, however, said the fire is not considered suspicious.

He estimated damage at more than $300,000 to the 11-year-old home and its contents

Assisting the West Sunbury and Unionville VFDs were firefighters from North Washington, Marion Township and Slippery Rock.
