BlueSox defeat Miners
Ben Carew’s two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning broke a 5-5 tie and lifted the Butler BlueSox to a 7-6 Prospect League baseball victory at West Virginia Wednesday night.
The Miners had the tying run at third base in the bottom of the ninth inning, but Wyatt Daugherty struck out Justin Mitchell to end the game and earn the save.
Carew was 3-for-5 on the night, including a double.
Jamie Switalski relieved Butler starting pitcher Nick Bucci in the sixth inning and earned the win after allowing one run on two hits in 2 1/3 innings.
The Sox (30-21) lead West Virginia and Champion City by three games for the East Division lead.
Butler hosts Danville tonight.
