MIDDLESEX TWP — The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission is drawing down Glade Run Lake beginning today to alleviate pressure on the dam.

According to the commission, the lake will be lowered by roughly two to three feet each week up to a total reduction of 10 feet in response to recently discovered seepage issues.

The lake remains open to anglers and boaters.

The state Department of Environmental Protection in 2002 declared the lake’s dam unsafe, placing it on a list of high-hazard dams.

The fish and boat commission, which owns the lake and dam, estimates a $4 million cost to reconstruct the dam’s concrete spillway and reinforce the embankment.

Glade Run is one of 16 high-hazard dams owned by the commission, which doesn’t have the funding to repair all of them.

The commission regularly stocks Glade Run Lake with trout and channel catfish.
