Ronald Edward Norman
Ronald Edward Norman, 58, died at his Boynton Beach, Fla., home at 3:33 p.m. Wednesday after a 10-year battle with chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
Born June 29, 1950, in Butler, the son of the late E. Merle Norman and the late Velma Elizabeth Bly Norman.
Mr. Norman grew up in Evans City. He graduated from Seneca Valley High School in 1968 and earned a bachelor's of science degree in mathematics and physics from Geneva College in Beaver Falls, in 1972. He also earned a master's degree in mathematics from Clarion University in Clarion.
Ron taught math and physics for 31 years at East Forest High School in Marienville, Brockway Area High School in Brockway, and concurrently part-time at the Penn State University Dubois Campus for nine years. He coached varsity basketball in Marienville, later officiated at basketball games for 10 years, and advised Student Council at Brockway, where he originated the workathon to benefit Pittsburgh Children's Hospital.
He married Geneva College alumna Vesta Lucinda "Cindy" Chamberlin, Oct. 20, 1972. Their son, Richard Ronald Norman was born May 8, 1976. Rich is now a firefighter medic at Margate, Fla. Amid tornado warnings on May 24, 2008, Amanda L. Abell joined the Norman family when she married Rich. Ron had been looking forward to the birth of his first grandchild, Payton Richard, due April 29.
Ron and Cindy moved from Hazen to Boynton Beach two years ago to be near Rich.
Ron was an avid Steelers fan, collecting Steelers paraphernalia. If a Steelers ball is inches from the goal and it topples over it on its own, now you can be sure that's Ron's doing. For Ron's ashes, Rich is making a box with an official Steelers medallion from Pennsylvania oak from Fremer Lumber, Brockway. Ron enjoyed woodworking and helping our son with construction projects.
Before illness prevented him, Ron had been an active member of Brookville's First United Methodist Church, Brookville. Ron had been a community volunteer for the Warsaw Volunteer Fire Department and an auditor for Warsaw Township in Hazen.
Ron was preceded in death by his father and mother, and a brother, Gary William. Ron is survived by his wife, Cindy; son, Rich; brother, Dennis Norman of Ellwood City; niece, Marlea Norman Zubik; great niece, Ava, of Boca Raton, Fla.; and nephews, Kevin Norman of Pittsburgh, and Daniel Norman of New York City.
