Rides, games, fireworks planned

PARKER, Armstrong County — This city will celebrate Community Day on Saturday at Phillips Community Park.

A 2 p.m. parade will start the festivities. The route starts at Seward Street, goes down North Cooper Avenue to Lincoln Street, and ends at North Euclid Avenue at Phillips Community Park. A day of family activities will follow from 3 to 8 p.m. at the park.

All day ride tickets cost $5 in advance or $6 at the gate. Advance tickets are available at Bob's Place Restaurant on Washington Street.

Those with ride tickets can choose from a mechanical bull, a horse derby ride, or blow-up bounce rides such as the Balloon Typhoon, fire truck slide and obstacle course, and more.

There will also be a Beautiful Baby contest, as well as a contest for the cutest pet and the ugliest pet.

Outdoor games will be played 4 to 5:30 p.m. and include a potato sack race. Cow patty bingo will be played from 5 to 6 p.m.

The Parker Masonic Lodge will sponsor a child identification program from 3 to 5 p.m.

All day, vendors will sell food such as popcorn, cotton candy, hot sausage sandwiches and chicken barbecue, funnel cakes and fresh lemonade.

Visitors also can buy City of Parker T-shirts, wood crafts and other handmade items. Raffles, a Chinese auction and other fund raisers will be held throughout the day.

The Pit Stop Challenge Championship will start at 7 p.m. Anyone can sign up for the competition, which is modeled after a NASCAR pit stop tire change.

The day will come to a close with fireworks at dusk.
