I-79 north reopens after crash near Portersville
PORTERSVILLE — Northbound traffic is flowing again on Interstate 79 in northern Butler County, after those lanes were closed for more than six hours following a tractor-trailer crash.
Police said the driver, Thomas Long, 59, of Union City, was jailed on a charge of drunken driving following the crash about 1:15 a.m. today.
State police closed the northbound lanes between the Portersville and Slippery Rock exits after the tractor-trailer jackknifed, overturned and spilled its load of grape juice.
Police said the driver's blood-alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit before he crashed. The driver was taken to the Butler County Jail.
State police reopened the highway about 7:45 a.m. after the wreckage was cleared.
