County officials look to adopt gas drilling impact fee
The Butler County commissioners on Monday moved closer to enacting a natural gas drilling impact fee under a new state law.
The commissioners agreed they need to move forward this week with an ordinance adopting the fee.
“We really need to get it done,” said Commissioner Dale Pinkerton.
The commissioners are set to authorize advertising of a date for the ordinance to be adopted.
According to Butler County records, there are 51 natural gas wells — 40 deep wells and 11 shallow wells — in the county.
What the county will receive is based on the percentage of drill sites it has compared to the rest of the state.
