BUTLER TWP — Seneca Valley graduate Sarah Beals had 15 kills and two assists as the Butler County Community College women's volleyball team defeated the Thiel junior varsity, 3-1, Wednesday night.

Game scores were 25-11, 20-25, 25-16, 25-18. The Dig Pink Rally, run by the BC3 squad, raised more than $1,700 for breast cancer research.

Ashley Campbell had 12 kills, Jamie Antoszyk had six kills and Danielle Lloyd had 30 digs for the Pioneers (21-4).

BC3 faces Montgomery County Community College at noon Saturday in Philadelphia for the PCAA state championship.

CHAMBERSBURG —Knoch High graduate Ethan Danner fired a 164 (82-82) to lead Butler County Community College to a fifth-place finish at the two-day Pennsylvania Collegiate Athletic Association championship at Penn National Golf Club in Chambersburg.Danner placed 18th out of 52 golfers.The Pioneers finished with 499 total strokes. Potomac State (W.Va.) won the 14-team event with a 455.Also scoring for BC3 were Butler High grad Antonio Baroffio (21st, 166) and Knoch grad Corey Branchen (22nd, 169).

ERIE — Despite 16 saves by goalkeeper Greg Blum, Slippery Rock University suffered a 1-0, double-overtime loss to host Gannon.The 12th-ranked Golden Knights won with Gary Newsom's goal in the 107th minute.SRU (9-3-1, 4-3), which entered the game ranked 21st, will host Wheeling (W.Va.) Jesuit Saturday.
