CONNOQUENESSING TWP — The Worst family of Butler Township has been named this year’s winner of the Eagle Bowl at the Butler Farm Show.

The award is sponsored by the Butler Eagle.

The award recognizes the high level of involvement of a family at the farm show.

Paul and Maria Worst maintain their farming roots on just 6 acres along Preston Drive.

They keep the farming tradition alive with a few chicken coops in the backyard with 23 chickens, and several vegetables they plant by hand in the front yard, such as cabbage, beets, corn, pumpkins and tomatoes.

“It’s in the blood, if you will,” said Paul Worst. “I can remember as a child, going to the farm show and watching them plow. I would help my parents” with produce, canned goods and flower entries.”

Despite not living on a farm now, the family had 107 entries in this year’s farm show, placing in three-fourths of them, from chickens, to jams, vegetables and baked goods.

“You don’t have to live on a farm,” he said. “You can do it anywhere. You can succeed anywhere.”

Two of the Worst’s children also participated, placing in many of their entries.
