WARRENDALE — Joel Rehm of Butler Cubs boxing will face John Cashmerra of MACFitness during a Golden Gloves boxing card at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Four Points Sheraton.
Other Cubs fighters on the card include Jimmy Emerick, Justin Emerick and Ryan Covert. Their opponents have not been announced.
ADAMS TWP— Mars High School seniors Brian Routhieaux and Marisa Glew were nominated to represent the school in competing in the WPIALScholar/Athlete Award program.The program recognizes young athletes who have exhibited athletic achievement, academic excellence and a commitment to school and community service. Two male and female participants in the program will be selected to receive $5,000 college scholarships.Routhieaux is a member of the Planets boys golf and basketball teams. He is a member of Student Council, Class Council, the Rotary Youth Leadership Conference, National Student Leadership Conference and Global Young Leaders Conference.Glew is a member of the girls golf team and helped that squad win the WPIALteam championship. She is an active member of National Honor Society and Class Council.
Karns City athletic director Tom Wagner was named the 2007 National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators State Award of Merit recipient for Pennsylvania.Wagner has served on the Pennsylvania State Athletic Directors Association executive council since 1997 and is president-elect of that organization. He was instrumental in developing organization's Guide for New Athletic Directors.Also serving as secretary-/treasurer of the Keystone Shortway Athletic Conference, Wagner is the head girls track coach at Karns City.
NEW YORK — Jamal Lewis, whose 2,066 yards rushing in 2003 were the second-most in NFL history, was cut by the Baltimore Ravens Wednesday.Lewis was one of several players released as teams maneuvered to find salary cap space before the free-agent period started Friday. However, the Ravens said they are still attempting to re-sign Lewis.
