Five Butler Cubs boxers will be in action on an amateur fight card at 7 p.m. Tuesday in front of the grandstand at the Big Butler Fair.
Ryan Covert (35-10) will fight Dualann Carroll of Altoona, Dave Cook (10-3) faces Kotogan Mulangeo of State College, Joel Rehm (5-2) meets Adam Littlejohn of Boyce A.C., Mike Croyle (0-1) fights Mike Dewhirst of Ellwood City and Seth Bartmas (8-5) takes on Scott Bradley of South Park.
There are eight bouts on the card overall. Fair admission includes the boxing show. Chairs in front of the grandstand will cost $5.
Judged on their performances at Wednesday's Region 7 All-Star finals at Clearfield, four Butler County American Legion players have advannced to the All-West Game July 6 in Altoona.First baseman Josh Marchinoski (Butler City), shortstop Mark White (Prospect), third baseman Chris Codispot (Butler Township) and pitcher Weston Hillegas (Mars) were among the 19 players selected from the Region 7 area.
With two weeks left in the regular season, East Butler leads the Butler County American Legion baseball standings with a 12-2 record.Mars is second at 11-3, followed by Prospect and Butler Township at 11-4. Meridian is 8-6, Saxonburg 7-7.Teams below .500 are Center Township at 5-10, Zelienople 4-9, Cranberry and West Sunbury at 2-11. The top eight teams qualify for the league tournament, scheduled to begin July 10.
Jenna Rinker, 15, of Slippery Rock fired a 78 to win first place in her age division in the most recent North East Junior Golf Tour event at Cedarbrook Golf Club in Belle Vernon.On Monday, Rinker was second in the girls 16-18 age bracket with a 73 in the King's Junior Golf Tournament at Glengarry Golf Club.
