Bill targets Great Lakes fish farmingFENTON, Mich. — A member of Congress is sponsoring a bill to prohibit fish farming in the Great Lakes within the U.S.Democratic Rep. Dan Kildee of Michigan says poorly operated aquaculture facilities can increase pollution, destroy fish habitat, spread disease and introduce non-native species.Michigan has received proposals for net-like commercial fishing enclosures in the Great Lakes. There are none in U.S. Great Lakes waters at present, although Canada has allowed them.Kildee’s bill also would ban aquaculture on rivers designated as wild and scenic, unless the facilities are shown not to discharge pollutants into the rivers.

Flint residents to get water filtersFLINT, Mich. — The state of Michigan plans to provide Flint residents with water filters and replacement cartridges for about three more years amid the city’s crisis with lead-tainted water.The timeline was noted in a letter to a Flint official from Richard Baird, a senior adviser to Gov. Rick Snyder. The letter also gave the city notice that credits to ease the cost of Flint water bills will stop at the end of this month.The filters and replacement cartridges will be provided as officials work to replace lead pipes and some other water service lines throughout Flint. The letter also said the state would continue to provide access to bottled water.The city is looking to replace service lines at 6,000 homes this year.

Blackstone, Aon have $4.8B dealNEW YORK — Investment firm Blackstone is buying Aon’s technology-enabled benefits and human resources assets in a deal valued at up to $4.8 billion. It includes $4.3 billion at closing and the potential for up to an additional $500 million.The companies said the Aon assets being purchased are the largest benefits administration platform in the U.S., serving about 15 percent of the U.S. working population across more than 1,400 companies.
