Joseph J. Ritson Jr.

Joseph J. Ritson Jr., 93, of Butler passed away on Wednesday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

He was born April 28, 1925, in DuBois, and was a son of the late Joseph J. Ritson Sr. and the late Helen (McCracken) Ritson.

Joseph worked as a secretary-treasurer for AZ Chevrolet in Penn Hills, retiring in 1988.

Joseph was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, and had served in the South Pacific as an Aviation Metalsmith, 3rd Class.

He was a graduate of Butler High School and was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church.

He was a member of the Lyndora American Legion Post 778.

Joseph enjoyed watching all of his Pittsburgh sports teams and gardening, but spending time with his family and friends was his favorite.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Anna Mae Ritson, whom he married on Nov. 1, 1946; one son, Joseph J. (Trish) Ritson III of Butler; three daughters, Elaine (John) Atkinson of Spring, Texas, Eileen “Tyke” (Wes) Vaughn of Meridian, and Jean (Bob) Snyder of Butler; nine grandchildren, Carlos, Jennifer, Kristina, Alan, Jen, P.J., Erika, Ashley and Erin; 13 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack Ritson, Bill Ritson and Al Ritson.

RITSON — Friends of Joseph J. Ritson Jr., who died Wednesday, March 27, 2019, will be received from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Carmen R. Shullo Sr. of Trinity Presbyterian Church officiating.Burial will take place in Butler County Memorial Park.Military honors will be provided by the officers and members of the American Legion Post 117, American Legion Post 778, Lyndora, and the VFW Post 249 of Butler at Butler County Memorial Park.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Robin's Home, which is supportive housing for women veterans and their children.
