Miller

Joan H. (Hostetter) Miller, 84, formerly of Culmerville, West Deer Township, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 30, 2022, at Butler Memorial Hospital in Butler.

She was born Feb. 20, 1938, in Newport, Perry County, Pa., and was the daughter of the late Homer O. and Addiemae (Richardson) Hostetter.

Joan grew up in rural Adams County. Then she moved to the Allegheny County/Butler County area to raise her children, moving to West Deer in 1970.

She began working at Tandem Health Care, Indiana Township, as a nursing assistant and went back to school to earn her certificate as a licensed practical nurse (LPN) at the age of 53, continuing to work at Tandem for a total of 15 years. She enjoyed spending time with her late sister, Betty Jean, and her family — sewing, doing puzzles, playing Phase 10 — and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her children, Sue (Dale) Daniels of Oakland Township, William (Mary) Walker of Buffalo Township, Carol (Bob) Fry of West Deer, and Betty Jo (Clint Lohler) Huss of Fawn Township; her sister, Connie Altice of Gardners; 19 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert S. Walker; her second husband, John “Jack” D. Miller; an infant daughter, Nancy Jean Walker; her brothers, Harold and Earl Hostetter; and her sisters, Betty Jean Henry and Arletta Bream.

MILLER — The family of Joan H. (Hostetter) Miller, who died Monday, May 30, 2022, will receive friends from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at SIWICKI-YANICKO FUNERAL HOME, 23 McKrell Road, Russellton, West Deer Township, where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday with the Rev. W. James Legge D.Min. officiating.

She will be laid to rest in Lakewood Memorial Gardens, Indiana, Pa.
