Mac E. Purvis
Mac E. Purvis, 90, of Middlesex Township, Valencia, passed away on Tuesday morning at the Arbors III in Gibsonia.
Born July 26, 1927, in Mars, he was the son of the late Thomas Darvin and Ida Hartung Purvis.
Mac was a multisport athlete at Mars High School and is in the Mars High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
He served in the U.S. Army Reserves and was on active duty during the Korean War as part of the 459th Anti-Aircraft Artillery. He obtained the rank of technical sergeant.
Mac worked his entire career as a second generation member of the family business, Purvis Brothers, which was founded in 1928 by his father and uncles Sam and Oliver Purvis. He served for many years as president of the firm, retiring in 2016 after nearly 70 years of service.
He was an enthusiastic golfer and a longtime member of Butler Country Club and also belonged to the First Presbyterian Church of Bakerstown.
Mac was a member of John E. Mair Lodge 729 F&AM and was a member of many Masonic organizations including Syria Shrine and the Royal Order of Jesters.
Active in the community, he was a charter member and director of Rich-Mar Rotary and was a life member of the Mars VFD, now Adams Area Fire District, the Mars American Legion and other organizations. He was an active member for many years in Pennsylvania Petroleum Association and the Pittsburgh Petroleum Association.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Purvis; his sons, Mac Jr. (Karen) of Valencia, and Robert of Palm Springs, Calif.; his stepdaughter, Bonne (Jeff) Maiatico of Oxford, Pa., and his grandchildren, JD, Mac III, Westin and Cierra; and his longtime caregiver, Sally Hallock. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Mac was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Heckert Purvis; his sisters, Dorothy Barton and Hazel Purvis; and his brothers, Avril and Darvin D. “Dean” Purvis.
PURVIS — A celebration of life for Mac E.
