Alexander “Al” Barna, 91, of Cranberry Township, went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021, surrounded by his family.

Al was born on May 29, 1930, in Howland, Ohio, and was the son of the late John and Anna Pawelchak Barna.

Al was a graduate of Howland High School in 1948.After high school, Al entered service with the U.S. Army on June 15, 1951, and proudly served his country during the Korean conflict.After returning from the war, Al attended Youngstown State University, and graduated with a bachelor's in civil engineering in 1958. He started his career with the Army Corps of Engineers in 1958, and retired after 31 years of dedicated service in 1989. He was also on the Board of the Cranberry Township Water Authority for 35 years.Al enjoyed attending church at St. Peter's Reformed Church in Zelienople.He was an active member and previous commander of the Cranberry VFW Post 879.Above all, Al enjoyed spending time with his family and his faithful companions, Rusty and Paige.Al is survived by his wife of 62 years, Juanita E. Brockway Barna, whom he married on Aug. 29, 1959; his two daughters, Deborah J. Moran (Rich) and Elaine K. Ray (Darrell); his son, Alex D. Barna (Amy); his grandchildren, Ryan Moran, Victoria Reagle, Rebekah Conville, Katrina Sheerer, Anna Stoffel and Alexander Barna; and five great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his brothers, Steve Barna, Gerald Barna and Paul Barna; and two sisters, Olga Atkins and Jenny Smuke.BARNA — A celebration of life service for Alexander “Al” Barna, who died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Reformed Church, 320 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople, with the Rev. James R. Bertoti officiating.Military honors will be held immediately following the service.Al will be laid to rest privately at Pinewood Memorial Gardens in Cranberry Township.Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Boylan Funeral Home, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.Memorial donations may be made in Al's honor to St. Peter's Reformed Church, or the Cranberry VFW Post 879.Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family at www.boylanfuneralservices.com.
