EVANS CITY — County officials are reviewing a new bid to fix the EDCO Park pool and are expected to vote on it at their Wednesday meeting.

One company submitted a $496,000 bid for the project, Aqua Pool out of Allegheny County, for the essential repairs.

Aqua Pool also included bids on some of the 15 alternative projects featuring extra options at the pool, but declined others.

Bids were opened Wednesday, and companies had until Tuesday to submit a bid.

Lance Welliver, director of the county Department of Parks and Recreation, said his department is evaluating the extra options now and will decide which of the extras, if any, to recommend to the county commissioners.

He said the basic work that must be completed includes:

A zero-entry pool entrance for children and those with disabilities.

A handicapped area with handrails to bring the pool into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Plumbing and filtration that would fix current issues and pre-plumb the pool property for future water features.

The addition of a peninsula between the pool and bench area.

These are all included in the main bid.

If it is accepted, Welliver hopes to see work begin by September, right after the pool closes for the summer.

“Full completion would be May of 2019,” he said. “Our goal is not to lose a season.”

Much of the work must be done by the end of the year, before grant money expires, Welliver said.

“A lot of this is relying on grant money,” he said.

Welliver explained last month that without the grant money there would not be enough funding to complete the project.

In addition to the pool repairs, commissioners last month approved a $73,125 bid by Boben Excavation and Construction of West Sunbury to renovate the EDCO pool bathhouse.

The county has $740,000 in funding to complete both the pool and the bathhouse. This includes around $80,000 raised by the borough.

Commissioners unanimously rejected a $553,000 bid to repair the pool from a Lawrence County company last month, saying it was too high.
