Hopper

Sarah Marie Geortz Hopper, 92, of Gibsonia, passed away on May 31, 2022.

She was born in Parker, on June 22, 1929, and was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary Smith Geortz.

She was the beloved wife of the late James L. Hopper.

She was the loving mother of Deborah (Rich) Lokay, Diana (Bruce) Hufnagle, Thomas (Janice) Hopper and Joy Hopper; the sister of the late Earl Geortz, Claire Geortz, Lawrence Charles Geortz, Dale Geortz and Helen Dunlap; the aunt of Donna Russ, Sandy Dunlap, Lee “Bump” Geortz, and the late Joyce Wimer; dear grandmother of Matthew Lokay, Richard (Vilmarie) Lokay, Kayla Hufnagle, Jim (Anna) Hopper, Amy (Mike) DeStefano, George Tsounos and Jason Tsounos.

She also is survived by five great-grandchildren and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Marie grew up from humble beginnings on the Geortz family farm in Eldorado, Pa., where she attended a one-room schoolhouse and was raised to be a tremendously hard worker.

She was a longtime playground attendant at Washington Elementary and Hance Elementary schools in Richland.

Marie enjoyed keeping a large garden every year, and would jar and freeze vegetables and fruit for the winter months. She also liked feeding and watching the birds in her yard, picking all varieties of berries, cutting grass, raking leaves, sewing, quilting, crafting, and visiting camp at Sugar Lake. Marie also was a wonderful cook and baker, always making an extra plate for visitors and guests.

She was a member for over 50 years of Bakerstown United Methodist Church, where she was active with many committees and groups. In recent years, she would play games on her iPad and communicate with friends around the world. Most of all, Marie loved being with her beloved family and friends and will be dearly missed.

HOPPER — Friends of Sarah Marie Geortz Hopper, who died Tuesday, May 31, 2022, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at SCHELLHAAS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Bakerstown United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Keith Dunn officiating.

Interment will follow in Bakerstown Cemetery.
