John W. Brewer, 87, a resident of Heritage Health, LaSalle, Ill., and formerly of Peru, Ill., died at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday in the Heritage Health nursing home.

John was born on Sept. 4, 1925, in Saxonburg to Joseph Melvin and Esther Ella (Flick) Brewer.

He married Betty Freehling on Dec. 1, 1945, in Trenton, Pa. She died Jan. 14, 2004.

He was a terminal manager for Schwerman Trucking. He was a past trustee in the Oglesby Elks.

John loved and took great pride in all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by two daughters, Ginger (James) Yaklich of LaSalle, Ill., and Sherry (William) Ritchie of Philmont, N.Y.; one brother, James of Pennsylvania; five grandchildren, Wendy, Brandi, Luke, Matt and Jonelle; and seven great-grandchildren, Olivia, Griffin, Taylor, Madalyn, Sophia, Eloise and Megan.

He was preceded in death by his wife and a brother, Harold.

BREWER — Cremation rites for John W. Brewer, who died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, will be accorded and family services will take place later.

The Shields Funeral Chapel, Oglesby, Ill., is in charge of arrangements.
