The Butler Area Sports Hall of Fame committee is accepting nominations for the 2007 induction ceremonies slated for April 28 at the Butler Days Inn.
Nomination resume forms are available by contacting Don Cavalero, Jim Lokhaiser Sr. or any board member. All resumes must be completed and submitted to the board of directors by Dec. 31.
Nominees should have graduated from high school at least 10 years ago and participated in sports as either a player, manager, coach or promoter, bringing fame Butler County in some sporting capacity or contributing to sports in some manner.
A person need not be a current resident of Butler County to be eligible.
ADAMS TWP — Numerous Mars football players were named to the Tri-County North all-star team.Running back Billy Bair was named league player of the year and Mars coach Scott Heinauer was named coach of the year.Lineman Scott Brettell and kicker Ryan Schroth are first-team selections on offense, with tight end Matt Kennedy and running back Josh Keil getting second-team honors.On defense, lineman Brettell, linebacker Kennedy and defensive back Keil made the first team, with lineman Chris Chappel and punter Schroth getting second-team honors.For Summit Academy, receiver-defensive back Lenny Brown made the first-team offense and defense, while lineman Lamonte Valentine and defensive back Steve Grandison made the second-team defense.Butler grad Nowakowski shinesButler High graduate and California (Pa.) University junior forward Kim Nowakowski put up 16 points and 11 rebounds in a 71-58 loss to Pitt on Wednesday.
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University junior tackle Mike Butterworth and junior defensive end Cory Lacek were named first-team All-PSACWest in football this season.Junior guard Bron Clouser and senior placekicker Ryan Daniel earned second-team honors for The Rock, along with junior defensive end Clint Forsha.SRUfinished the season with a 7-4 overall record, 4-2 in the PSACWest.
ADAMS TWP — Monica Glomb, a senior at Mars High School, has accepted a scholarship to play softball at Division II Kutztown University.Glomb, a pitcher for the Planets, helped the squad capture the WPIALClass AA championship last spring.
