Indiana, Pa., printing plant hit by fire

INDIANA, Pa. — Fire crews have been battling a blaze at a printing company that has produced smoke that can be seen for miles.

The fire at Creps United Publications near Indiana, Pa. was reported about 8:30 a.m. and appeared to be largely under control by noon.

Indiana County emergency management coordinator Tom Stutzman says ink used at the plant isn’t flammable because it is soy-based, but the large volumes of paper stored there have fueled the fire. No workers have been hurt, though two firefighters are said to be hurt, one from a hose and another from an unspecified medical condition.

The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.

The company prints bulk inserts and brochures for newspapers.
