William R. “Bill” Cummings

William R. “Bill” Cummings

William R. “Bill” Cummings of Butler passed away on Tuesday.

Born May 24, 1958, he was the very proud son of Thomas “Pops” Cummings and Lillian “Mimi” Schottland.

Bill graduated from Butler High School in 1976, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy a year later, serving most of his time in Scotland.

He went on to graduate from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He achieved his master's degree in human resource management in 1997 from La Roche College.

His amazing career as a state child welfare officer, vice-president of Standard Bent Glass Co. and human resource director for a number of successful organizations, paled in comparison to the devotion he showed Pops, his father, while taking loving care of him in his own home for the last few years of his life.

Bill was a fun-loving, sweet and thoughtful person, who made everyone feel like family. He loved spending time at Cummings Candy and Coffee and assisting Barry, to greet customers, make candy and spread the infectious happiness that was also one of Pops's special qualities.

He was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan and loved spending time with all four of his nieces, always getting down on the floor to play and being as silly as he could to make them laugh.

Bill is survived by his loving and wonderful mother, Lillian Schottland of Butler; his brother, Bob Cummings and his wife, Susan (Ritchie), of Dallas, Texas; his brother, Barry Cummings and his wife, Jennifer (Logan) of Butler; four beautiful nieces, Sarah Cummings and David Stewart of Dallas, Texas, Emma Mack and her husband, Brian, of Dallas, Texas, and Thomasina “Tommie” and Penelope Cummings of Butler; as well as numerous extended family members.

Bill was preceded in death by his father.
