Jeanne Lang Schlicht
Jeanne Lang Schlicht, 87, of Butler passed away at 2:45 a.m. Saturday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
She was born on Nov. 29, 1927, in Pittsburgh to the late Andrew Frederick Lang and Ottilie Eckstein Lang.
Mrs. Schlicht was a graduate of Carnegie Institute of Technology, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in fabric science and was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority.
She began working for the Mellon Institute doing research for the Albany Felt Co., which was a producer of wool uniforms used by the Pittsburgh Pirates and other Major League Baseball teams.
She married Charles Joseph “Chuck” Schlicht on Sept. 15, 1951, and moved to Butler.
Jeanne worked in kindergarten teaching at the Trinity Lutheran Church before it became part of the school system. She was instrumental in starting the preschool program at the Middlesex Presbyterian Church. Jeanne was also the bookkeeper for the Butler-Shearer Hardware Store on Main Street that she and her husband owned and operated.
Jeanne was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church, where she was actively involved in the Covenant Cupboard Ministry. She was a member of the Home Economics Club, two bridge clubs and was a former member of the Intermediate Club. Jeanne was a 55-year volunteer at Butler Memorial Hospital, a 20-year volunteer at VA Butler Healthcare and was active in the American Association of University Women.
She loved playing bridge and enjoyed sewing, knitting and world-traveling.
Mrs. Schlicht is survived by her two sons, C. Andrew Schlicht of Titusville and Peter F. Schlicht and his wife, Anne, of Sewickley; her daughter, Lisa A. McPeak and her husband, Bart, of Federal Way, Wash.; her four granddaughters, Audrey Jo Schlicht of Chicago, Ill., Kerry Beth Schlicht of Eugene, Ore., and Celena V. McPeak and Chloe J. McPeak, both of Federal Way, Wash., and her several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Joseph “Chuck” Schlicht, who passed away on Nov. 4, 2010; her two sisters, Audrey Neu and Margaretha Neu, and her daughter-in-law, Tracey Jo Schlicht.
Schlicht — The friends of Jeanne Lang Schlicht, who passed away Saturday, Feb. 21, 2015, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Covenant Presbyterian Church, 230 E. Jefferson St., Butler, with the Rev. James Swanson officiating.
