THE CHAMBER makes name change

WEXFORD — After operating more than three years as the THE CHAMBER of Commerce, Inc., it is changing its name to the Pittsburgh North Regional Chamber of Commerce, officials announced this morning.

“The name change reflects the direction the chamber has been working on: for three years, said Rebecca Martin, president and CEO of the now Pittsburgh North Regional Chamber. “It does help us illustrate the connection that the businesses corridor span over our three counties.”

THE CHAMBER was formed on Jan. 1, 2010, from the merging of the Cranberry Area Chamber of Commerce and the Northern Allegheny County Chamber of Commerce.

The merger had been discussed between the two chambers for years. Continuing growth in the Cranberry area as well as regional interests expressed in northern Allegheny County prompted the two chambers to accelerate their merger talks.

The current membership includes 1,100 business members from the chamber’s region that extends from Zelienople south to the Allegheny River and from Route 8 in the east into Beaver County in the west.

Chamber members cover Allegheny, Beaver and Butler and 16 municipalities and range from sole proprietors to large corporations.

The chamber operates two offices, one in the Cranberry Township Municipal Center on Rochester Road and the other at 5000 Brooktree Road in Wexford.

Chamber officials will to make the official name change announcement at 11:30 a.m. today at their office in Wexford.
