CHICORA — The Last Laff defeated Chicora Moose three games to one to win the Chicora Area Modified Pitch Softball League title recently.

Chicora Moose won the first game 9-8, but Last Laff won the following three contests 19-18, 7-5 and 14-12.

David Hilderbrand batted .643 with two doubles, Chris Miller hit .600 with a homer and three doubles, Brian Horner hit .600 with a triple and Dave Craig batted .500 with a homer, triple and two doubles for the winners.

For Chicora Moose, Nathan McCollough hit .563 with two triples and four doubles, Josh Smith batted .500 with three homers and two doubles, Jason McCollough batted .500 with two doubles and Brent Bell hit .500.

Six area hockey players are on the Pittsburgh Viper Stars 18-and-under Class AAA amateur hockey team this season.Forwards Adam Eastbrook of Butler, Shane Gallagher and Beau Zack of Freeport, Andrew Tang of Seneca Valley are on the team, along with Freeport defenseman Jeremy Hepler and goaltender Tim Zahumensky.David Kosick of Cranberry Township and Tom Stepke of Seven Fields are head coach and assistant coach, respectively.The Viper Stars showcase elite amateur players from the tri-state area against top Canadian and American teams in tournaments designed to expose players for junior and college opportunities.

ATHENS, Ohio — Butler graduate Matt Galante is continuing his academic and swimming careers at Ohio University. He will major in communications and sports science.Galante teamed with Josh Barthlow, Bob Barkus and Eric Clouse to set the Butler pool record of 1 minute, 39.02 seconds in the 200-yard medley relay.He was a Butler swim team captain as a junior and senior and won the Steven Napora MVPAward. Galante also went to YMCA Nationals four straight years.

SAN FRANCISCO — Barry Bonds' personal trainer was back in jail Monday, where he'll stay until he agrees to testify before a federal grand jury investigating the Giants slugger.Greg Anderson, found in contempt of court for his refusal to talk, could remain behind bars for more than a year while the grand jury investigates Bonds for perjury and tax evasion.Anderson, who has appeared five times before two federal grand juries without answering pertinent questions, also was held in contempt of court for two weeks last month but was released when that grand jury's term expired.Mark Geragos, the trainer's attorney, said he would appeal the judge's order.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Priest Holmes, who hasn't practiced at all in training camp, now will miss at least the first six weeks of the regular NFL season and his career is in doubt.Kansas City put the three-time Pro Bowl running back on the physically-unable-to-perform list Monday. He will be out for a minimum of six weeks, then the Chiefs will have 21 days to activate him.Holmes, who turns 33 in October, missed the last nine games of the 2005 season after taking a hit from San Diego's Shawne Merriman that caused trauma to the head and neck, and doctors still haven't given him medical clearance to practice or play.While Holmes was gone, Larry Johnson took his job with a spectacular nine-game spurt that ended in a team-record 1,750-yard rushing season.
