Firefighters stop attic fire from spreading
CLINTON TWP — Firefighters on Thursday night prevented a small attic blaze from spreading to the rest of house on a McKay Road.
Chief Chris Ballina of the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company said a wiring problem caused the fire at 166 McKay Road, which reached a roof truss.
“It could have gotten ugly fast,” Ballina said.
Crews cut holes in the wall of the finished attic and the second-floor ceiling to access all the hot spots, which included smoldering insulation.
They used a fire extinguisher since the blaze was in the early stages.
Ballina said the owners, Charles and Terry Fuellgraf, smelled the smoke that was filing the attic.
Fifteen firefighters responded to the 7:41 p.m. 911 call. The Middlesex Township Volunteer Fire Company assisted at the scene. They cleared the scene at 10 p.m.
