Motorcycle crash victim identified

ZELIENOPLE — Borough police have identified the Beaver County man killed this morning in a rush-hour accident on West New Castle Street.

Frederick Mark Konyak, 54, of Fombell died when the motorcycle he was riding collided about 6 a.m. with a sport utility vehicle.

Police said Konyak was eastbound on his way to work. The other driver, Steven Purvis, 29, of Evans City was traveling east in a Jeep Cherokee Loredo.

The collision happened in the eastbound lane, said Zelienople police Chief Jim Miller.

Konyak was thrown off his Harley-Davidson. Investigators do not believe he was wearing a helmet.

He was unresponsive when rescuers got there. He was later taken to UPMC Passavant Cranberry, where he was pronounced dead.

Miller said a state police accident reconstruction team is investigating. No decision has been made about possible charges.
