Flight 93 Advisory Commission to disband

SOMERSET, Pa. — The Flight 93 Advisory Commission, created by former President George W. Bush after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, is disbanding.

The 15-member group, appointed by the Secretary of the Interior, helped plan and design the memorial at the site where hijacked United Airlines Flight 93 crashed during the attacks, killing all 40 passengers and crew.

The group’s last meeting will be Sept. 10, the day before the 12th anniversary of the attacks.

The meeting will coincide with the ground breaking for a learning center and a separate visitor center at the Flight 93 National Memorial near Shanksville.

The group has met four times a year since being sworn in nearly 10 years ago.
