Clyde F. Giegel

Clyde F. Giegel, 84, of Hampton Township, formerly of Portersville, died Saturday at UPMC Passavant, McCandless Township.

Born Nov. 19, 1922, in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, he was the son of Joseph and Dora (Weigel) Giegel.

Mr. Giegel was a member of St. Catherine of Sweden Catholic Church in the Wildwood section of Hampton Township. Before moving to Hampton in April, he belonged to St. Christopher Parish, Prospect.

He was a past president of the Pittsburgh Council of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, past Eastern Regional chairman of the SVDP Society and a member of the Butler Council of Eucharistic Ministers and ministered to shut-ins and Butler County jail inmates.

Mr. Giegel received the Manifesting the Kingdom Award from the Pittsburgh Diocese in 1999, was a member of the Butler Ultreya of Cursillo Marriage Encounter, the Buco Camping Club of Butler and the Slippery Rock Senior Center.

He retired from the Casey Equipment Co. in 2000.

He was the loving father of Timothy and Michael Giegel, both of the North Hills, Daniel Giegel of Coatesville, Stephen Giegel of Butler, John Giegel of Greenville, David Giegel, of McDonald, Mary Giegel of the South Hills and Kathleen Giegel of Pittsburgh. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a brother Lloyd Giegel of New Bern, N.C.

His wife, Kathryn M. "Kay" (Choate) Giegel, whom he married Jan. 18, 1947, died Oct. 15, 2007. He also was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.

King Jr. Funeral Home</B>, Route 8 at 2841 Woodland Circle, Hampton Township.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Catherine of Sweden Catholic Church.
