HARRISBURG — State senators are pressing for details today about a deal to hand the Pennsylvania Lottery’s management to a British firm, awarded by Gov. Tom Corbett’s administration three days ago.

Secretary of Revenue Daniel Meuser and other officials answered the questions at today’s Senate Finance Committee hearing.

Administration officials say Camelot Global Services is pledging up to $1.8 billion in lottery profits above what state lottery employees could deliver over the next decade. That figure includes a substantial expansion of lottery gambling.

Representatives of state lottery employees told senators they think they can do a better job, and don’t have to build in a profit margin. But they questioned why they weren’t given a chance.

Pennsylvania would join Illinois and Indiana in privatizing lottery management. A court challenge is pending.
