JACKSON TWP — A natural gas processing plant in the township is one step closer to being built.

That is because the township supervisors on Thursday night approved a conditional use application from Keystone Midstream Services for its second cryogenic processing plant in Butler County.

The proposed Bluestone Plant would be along Hartmann Road across from the Seneca Landfill and about a mile from the Seneca Valley School District’s campus for its secondary schools.

Diane Sipe of Jackson Township again asked the supervisors to reject the new gas treatment plant.

But supervisors Chairman Ron Lutz said the council cannot exclude Keystone Midstream from operating and building a gas plant in the manufacturing zone that permits such development or the township would be denying the company its rights.

Lutz said the supervisors have not heard suggestions on what conditions should be placed on the plant. All they heard were residents saying “no” to building the plant, which he said was not an option.

The company expects to spend $25 million on the plant, which it wants to be operating in 2012.
