NEW YORK — Power problems have left some New Jersey Transit commuters stranded for about three hours on the busy rail line between New York City and New Jersey.

Amtrak spokesman Cliff Cole said today that Hudson River tunnel lost power around 9 a.m.

He says four NJ Transit trains were initially stranded, but two were later removed. He said there also were Amtrak delays.

Befuddled passengers congregated at Penn Station in Manhattan. Some were rerouted to subway trains.

Attorney John Doherty arrived around 11:30 a.m. His train from Glen Ridge, N.J., was nearly three hours late.

Doherty had loosened his tie on the “hot and humid” train. He says passengers stayed calm and made “a lot of jokes.”

He managed a smile as he went to reschedule his missed meeting.
