GROVE CITY — Connor Schmidt of Venetia and Brett Young of Bethel Park both shot 7-under-par 137 Tuesday at the U.S. Amateur sectional qualifier at Grove City Country Club.

The two captured the qualifying spots for the 117th annual U.S. Amateur Championship Aug. 14-20 at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

Alternate qualifiers are Hunter Bruce of McMurray and Anthony Cordaro of Pittsburgh. Both shot 5-under-par 139.

Sean Knapp of Oakmont tied for fifth with a 141.

Top local finishers were Henry Bartony III of Butler with a 146, Josh Bartley of Valencia with a 158, Jon Pratkanis of Valencia a 149 and Jimmy Ellis of Butler a 152.
