Robert D. “Bob” Roccia

Robert D. “Bob” Roccia, 89, of Cranberry Township, formerly of Callery, Pa., passed away Wednesday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice, surrounded by his family.

Born April 2, 1928, in Paterson, N.J., he was the son of the late Louis Roccia and Frances Grand Roccia.

Bob proudly served our country during World War II in the U.S. Army in the Inspector General's office in Hawaii. Bob began his career as a “gandy dancer” with the B&O Railroad, where he laid and maintained tracks by hand. While working for the B&O Railroad for 25 years, Bob attended Traffic and Transportation School in Pittsburgh. Bob was the last freight agent in the Evans City Depot. He then went to work 21 years for the Missouri-Kansas-Texas (Katy Railroad), where he retired as a sales manager in their New York office.

Bob was a member of the Crestview Community Church in Callery, where he served as an elder and a deacon. He was an over 50-year member of the Mars Masonic Lodge and belonged to the Callery VFW. Bob was an excellent bowler and an avid cyclist. He also loved to garden. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Elizabeth Marburger Roccia, whom he married Nov. 27, 1948; his children, Wayne (Peggy) Roccia of Zelienople and Denise (Tony) DiVirgilio of Delaware; his daughter-in-law, Cynda Roccia of Zelienople; his sister, Laura Rodgers of Mars; his grandchildren, Jennifer (Larry) Moreau, Merrie Beth (Jesse) Houseman and Dr. Wayne (Stephanie) Roccia; his great-grandchildren, Graham and Layton Moreau, Olivia, Victoria, Alexander and Jackson Roccia and Ethan Houseman; and his extended family in Callery and Florida.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his son, Donald Roccia.

ROCCIA — A Celebration of Life service for Robert D. “Bob” Roccia, who died Wednesday, July 5, 2017, will be Aug. 13 at the conclusion of the Crestview Presbyterian Church's 11 a.m. worship service, Callery. A luncheon will follow in the church hall.Memorial donations may be made in Bob's honor to the American Cancer Society, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15205, or to VNA Inpatient Hospice, 115 Technology Drive, Butler, PA 16001, or to the Butler County Humane Society, 1015 Evans City Road, Renfrew, PA 16053.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Boylan Funeral Home, 324 E.
