Police: Carjacking suspect intoxicated at time of crime
A suspected carjacker was more than twice the legal limit for alcohol when he crashed a minivan that minutes earlier he had commandeered from a Butler woman at knifepoint, police said.
Test results showed David W. Robertson Jr.'s blood-alcohol level was 0.168 percent on the afternoon of Feb. 17 after the attempted getaway and multi-vehicle crash in Butler Township, according to court documents.
A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.
Inside the stolen van was a serrated kitchen knife that investigators said the 27-year-old Robertson used to force Linda Wampler to surrender her 2003 Dodge Caravan.
Those new details of last month's carjacking, chase and crash were disclosed in an amended criminal complaint with additional charges that Butler police have filed.
Those charges are fleeing or attempting to elude police, reckless endangerment, accidents including injury, driving under the influence, driving without a license and five other traffic violations.
Robertson, meanwhile, in connection with the carjacking, is charged with robbery of a vehicle, attempted kidnapping, unlawful restraint, terroristic threats and receiving stolen property.
A preliminary hearing on all charges is scheduled March 30 before District Judge Pete Shaffer.
