Crash claims motorcyclist
CRANBERRY TWP — A motorcyclist died this morning of injuries suffered in a crash late Tuesday night at Thorn Hill and Rolling roads, authorities said.
Bruce Bailey, 55, of Cranberry Township died at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, where he was taken following the wreck shortly before midnight.
He was pronounced dead at 4:04 a.m. of severe chest injuries, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office. There was no autopsy.
Cranberry Township police said Bailey was westbound on Thorn Hill Road about 11:45 p.m. when he lost control of his 2003 Harley-Davidson.
The cycle crashed at the intersection with Rolling Road. Bailey was not wearing a helmet.
Investigators did not immediately know what caused the wreck, said police Sgt. Chuck Mascellino.
There apparently were no witnesses, police said.
Despite his injuries, Bailey was conscious and talked to rescuers soon after the accident, Mascellino said.
Cranberry Ambulance took Bailey to UPMC Passvant Cranberry before he was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian.
The crash, meanwhile, closed the road for about three hours to allow the police accident reconstruction team to investigate.
The investigation continues.
The death marked the fifth in the county involving motorcycles in the past six weeks.
