Neil Nye

Neil M. Nye Jr., 77, of Cranberry Township passed away Monday morning at Sherwood Oaks in Cranberry Township.

Born on July 25, 1936, in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late Neil and Helen Everett Nye Sr.

After high school, Neil was a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served from 1954 to 1964. He was then employed as a computer specialist for Mellon Bank in Pittsburgh for 30 years.

In his younger years, he enjoyed scuba diving, judo and was an avid bowler most of his life. In later years, he was an accomplished woodworker.

Neil was an active member of the Covenant Community Church in Marshall Township, where he served as a deacon.

He was the father of Jeffrey Nye and his wife, Cheryl, of Texas, Scott Nye and his wife, Rebecca, of Florida, Larry Nye and his wife, Cathy, of Cranberry Township and Andrea Howard and her husband, David, of Texas; grandfather of Jonathan, Mason, Morgan, Lillyanne and Charles; brother of Nathan Nye, Jeannetta Arnold and Loretta Oium; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Lawrence Nye, who he married on March 16, 1957, and who died on Oct. 18, 2004; his brother, George “Milton” Nye, and a sister, Mary Lutz.

NYE — Friends of Neil M. Nye Jr., who passed away Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, will be received at the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev.
