James W. Palmer

James Palmer

James W. Palmer, 90, a 55-year resident of Liberty Township, Grove City, passed away at 11:05 p.m. Saturday at the Trinity Living Center, Grove City, following a five-month illness.

He was born on Sept. 14, 1924, in New Castle, to the late Earl F. and Hazel B. Heasley Palmer.

He married Ruth J. Fleeger on Oct. 31, 1950.

He retired from Cooper Energy Service, Grove City, where he was a foreman and supervisor at the time of his retirement. He was employed there for many years. Formerly, he was employed by Grove City Brass and Bronze.

He was a member of the North Liberty Presbyterian Church, where he was a former trustee.

A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was in the Battle of Normandy.

He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 0064 in Butler and the Grove City Sportsmen’s Club. He was a lifetime member of the Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth, at home; his four daughters, Karen Carothers and her husband, Robert, of Grove City, Lois Hogue and her husband, Jack, of Grove City, Laura Bell and her husband, Jeff, of Verona, and Diane Powell and her husband, Richard, of Harrisville; his eight grandchildren, Greta Pierce and her husband, Josh, Adam Carothers and his wife, Dawn, Matti Schepp and her husband, Jason, Steph Thompson and her husband, Doug, Erika and Megan Bell, and Cory and Brianna Powell; his nine great-grandchildren, Lennon and Marshal Pierce, Troy and Lorna Carothers, Mallory and Noah Schepp, and Jake, Nate and Trinity Thompson, and his two brothers, Harold Palmer of Clearwater, Fla., and Richard and his wife, Virginia Palmer, of Grove City.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two sisters, Mary Ryder and Grace McCarthy; his brother, Leonard Palmer, and his son-in-law, J. W. “Bill” Carothers.

Palmer— Visitation for James W. Palmer, who passed away Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Cunningham Funeral Home, 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with burial in North Liberty Cemetery.Memorials may be made to the North Liberty Presbyterian Church, 209 N.
