George M. Ketterer Sr.

George M. Ketterer Sr., 84, of Prospect, formerly of Ellwood City, died on Wednesday in his home.

Born Aug. 9, 1923, he was the son of Irvin and Linda Householder Ketterer.

Mr. Ketterer worked more than 30 years as a machine operator in the hot mill department at U.S. Steel in Ellwood City.

He was a member of the Wurtemburg United Presbyterian Church.

During World War II, he was a tank gunner in the U.S. Army, serving as a corporal in the Company B 48th Tank Battalion, 14th Armored Division.

He was a member of the VFW Post 157 and a past member of the Hungarian Home and Saxons Club in Ellwood City.

Mr. Ketterer enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Jean M. Frazier Ketterer, whom he married on Sept. 9, 1944.

He also is survived by his daughter, Judith Ketterer of Ellwood City, three sons, George (Annie) Ketterer Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colo., Larry (Mary) Ketterer of Colorado Springs and Thomas (Carol) Ketterer of Ellwood City; five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Phillip, Kenneth and Theodore Ketterer, and one sister, Helen Fischer.

<B>KETTERER —</B> Friends of George Ketterer Sr., who died on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the <B>SAMUEL TEOLIS FUNERAL HOME,</B> 309 Spring Ave., Ellwood City. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Rich Byerly officiating. Burial will follow at Sylvanian Hills Memorial Park.Members of the veterans honor guard are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:45 p.m. Saturday to conduct full military rites.Memorials may be made Good Samaritan Hospice, 3500 Booktree Road., Wexford, PA 15090.
