FRANKLIN TWP — The Big Butler Fair, featuring midway rides, games, concerts and truck pulls in addition to the agricultural exhibits, continues through Saturday at the Big Butler Fair Grounds. Hours are 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the grounds at 1127 New Castle Road.

SAXONBURG — Author and illustrator Terrie Mourningdove of Butler will have a book signing of her newest work, “Observe,” from noon to 3 p.m. July 15 at Curds and Molds Fromagerie, 259 Main St.
The book offers advice on how people can use observation and meditation to enhance their lives.
The author has published two children’s books under the pen name, Terrie Tomko: “The Wonderful Story of God’s Creation” and “The Book of Angels.”
There will be no parking on Main Street that day, due to Saxonburg’s 185th anniversary celebration.
[naviga:h3]Mega cruise at airport[/naviga:h3]
PENN TWP — The Penn Township Volunteer Fire Department’s Mega Cruise is 2 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Pittsburgh-Butler Regional Airport. Gates open at 1 p.m.
In addition to the cruise, happenings will include music, food, raffles, and at 9:45 p.m., fireworks Admission is $2.

SAXONBURG — The annual Saxonburg Carnival is July 17 to 22. Activities include the pet parade, water battle, pageants, fireman’s parade and rides. Hours are 6 to 11 p.m. nightly. Visit www.svfc.com.
[naviga:h3]Orwald plays scheduled[/naviga:h3]
BUTLER TWP — Outdoor performances of two original one-act plays by playwright and Butler native Don Orwald are planned for August in Preston Park, 415 S. Eberhart Road.
The first script deals with the creation of the Bantam Jeep at the American Bantam Car Works and is set in Butler in 1940. The second script deals with the Monuments Men, the soldiers chosen to find and preserve the great works of art stolen by the Nazis during World War II.
The shows are at 2 and 4 p.m. Aug. 5 and 2 p.m. Aug. 6. Take seating.
