BlueSox halted by rain
Butler was looking for redemption Sunday after a 12-6 loss to West Virginia Saturday.
But neither team won.
The weather came out victorious.
With the score knotted 3-3 at the start of the bottom of the 10th inning, heavy rain suspended the game between the BlueSox and the Miners.
It will be resumed July 20.
The BlueSox (8-9) trailed 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth and were down to their final two outs, but rallied to force extra innings.
Damian Maglione doubled to start the one-out rally.
Ben Carew hit a comebacker to West Virginia pitcher Shawn Dumser Jr. and Maglione was caught in a rundown, but was able to slide safely into third.
Tanner Murphy followed with a sacrifice fly to tie the game.
Mike Klingensmith got the start for Butler, giving up three runs on eight hits over six innings.
Pavin Parks worked a perfect 10th in relief for the BlueSox.
James Meeker had three hits for Butler.
Joe Gunn and Maglione had RBI singles.
In Saturday’s game, the BlueSox were hitless through four innings as West Virginia took a 4-0 lead and cruised to the 12-6 win.
Butler did get the bats going in the later innings. Maglione tripled, doubled and drove in two and Parks had a triple two RBI, but the offense wasn’t enough to counter the Miners.
Jake Stout got the loss for the BlueSox, lasting just five innings and giving up six runs — five earned — on six hits.
Brandon Nylin got the win. He was touched up for four runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth.
Austin Sherry pitched the final four innings for the save.
Butler is off today and will travel to Champion City for a pair of games Tuesday and Wednesday.
The BlueSox are 0-4 against the Kings this season.
