Daugherty gives Butler great relief

Butler High graduate Wyatt Daugherty picked up the win in relief, tossing three no-hit innings to help the Butler BlueSox to a 3-2 win over Chillicothe on a soggy Friday night in Ohio.

It’s the fourth consecutive win for the surging BlueSox (18-15), who moved into second place in the Prospect League East Division standings, two games behind Champion City.

Daugherty was masterful in relief of starter Josh LaPiana. The right-hander came out of the pen with Butler down 2-1 and struck out four in three perfect innings.

The BlueSox moved ahead 3-2 in the top of the eighth on singles by Patrick Ferguson and Rey Gonzalez.

Gonzalez had two hits and Tanner Murphy also doubled for the BlueSox.

LaPiana also pitched well for Butler in his third start of the season.

He went six innings, giving up five hits and two runs — one earned — while striking out seven.

Butler will play at Kokomo Saturday and Sunday. After an off-day Monday, the BlueSox return home for a three-game set with Chillicothe (18-16) starting Tuesday.
