Betty Louise Yelland English
Betty Louise Yelland English, 90, of Slippery Rock, Worth Township, passed away at the Grove Manor Nursing Home in Grove City.
She was born Aug. 11, 1926, in Grove City, to Norman Yelland and Bertha Marie Sankey Yelland. She married George William English on April 10, 1945, and he preceded her in death on July 23, 1994.
Betty graduated from Plain Grove High School in 1944, where she was valedictorian.
Betty was part of that special group of women who served their country by working in factories as the men were drafted into service for World War II. Consequently, Betty worked at Cooper Bessemer in office administration. Betty along with her husband, George, built and operated the Evening Star Motel in Worth Township until their retirement.
She was a member of the North Liberty Presbyterian Church and had served as deacon, a member of the Presbyterian Women of the Church and a member of the Learners Fellowship Sunday School Class. She enjoyed quilting.
She is survived by three daughters, Deanna K. “Kathy” Schultz and her husband, Richard M., of Volant, Joanne C. Barger and her husband, Robert K. Jr. of Grove City, Kim M. Brinker and her husband, Paul L., of Slippery Rock; her brother, Lloyd Yelland of Slippery Rock; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, George; and her great-granddaughter, Sierra Faith.
ENGLISH — Family of Betty Louise Yelland English, who died Friday, March 24, 2017, will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the North Liberty Presbyterian Church, 209 N. Liberty-Plaingrove Road, Grove City, with the Rev. Dr. Robert McCreight presiding. Interment will be at the Crestview Memorial Park, Grove City.
Memorial contributions may be given to advance research in the fields of diabetes and Parkinson’s disease.
